IdeaDumpster ("we", "our", or "the extension") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and safeguard your information when you use our Chrome extension.

IdeaDumpster collects minimal data necessary for its core functionality:

1.1 Authentication Information (Optional)

What: Email address and password
Why: To enable secure sign-in and cloud synchronization
Storage: Encrypted and managed by Google Firebase Authentication
Sharing: Never shared with third parties
Optional: You can use IdeaDumpster without signing up (local-only mode)

1.2 Your Ideas and Notes

What: Text content, titles, tags, collections, URLs, and reminders you create
Why: Core functionality - storing and organizing your ideas
Storage: Stored locally in your browser OR in Google Firebase (if you sign up)
Sharing: Never shared with anyone - completely private to you

1.3 Technical Data

What: Page URLs where ideas are captured, timestamps
Why: To provide context and organization for your ideas
Storage: Stored with your ideas (local or cloud)
Sharing: Never shared

2. How We Use Your Data

Local Storage: All ideas are stored in your browser's local storage for instant access
Cloud Sync (Optional): If you create an account, your data syncs to Firebase for multi-device access
Reminders: Browser notifications are sent for ideas with reminders you set
Organization: Your tags, collections, and search work on your stored ideas
Export: You can export your data in JSON, CSV, or Markdown formats

3. Data Storage and Security

3.1 Local Storage

When using IdeaDumpster without signing up, all your data is stored exclusively in your browser's local storage. This data never leaves your device.

3.2 Cloud Storage (Optional)

When you create an account, your data is stored in Google Firebase:

All data is transmitted over HTTPS (encrypted in transit)
Data is stored in secure Firebase Firestore databases
Access is protected by Firebase security rules (only you can access your data)
Your password is encrypted using Firebase Authentication

4. What We DO NOT Do

Sell your data to anyone
Share your data with third parties for marketing
Use your data for advertising
Track your browsing history
Monitor your activity outside the extension
Access your data without your permission
Use your data for purposes unrelated to the extension's functionality

5. Third-Party Services

IdeaDumpster uses the following third-party service:

Google Firebase
Used for: Optional user authentication and cloud data synchronization
Privacy Policy: Google Privacy Policy

Firebase is only used if you choose to create an account. Local-only usage does not involve Firebase.

6. Your Rights and Control

You have complete control over your data:

Access: View all your ideas anytime in the extension sidebar
Edit: Modify, update, or delete individual ideas
Export: Download all your data in JSON, CSV, or Markdown format
Delete: Clear individual ideas or all ideas at once
Account Deletion: Sign out and delete your Firebase account to remove cloud data
Opt-Out: Use local-only mode without creating an account

7. Data Retention

Local Storage: Data persists until you clear your browser data or uninstall the extension
Cloud Storage: Data persists until you delete it or delete your account
Account Deletion: If you delete your account, all cloud data is permanently removed

8. Children's Privacy

IdeaDumpster is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided us with personal information, please contact us.

9. Data Breach Notification

In the unlikely event of a data breach affecting your information, we will notify affected users as soon as possible and take immediate steps to secure the data.

10. International Data Transfers

If you use cloud sync, your data may be stored on Google Firebase servers located in various regions worldwide. Firebase complies with applicable data protection laws and regulations.

11. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make changes, we will:

Update the "Last Updated" date at the top of this page
Notify users through the extension if changes are significant
Continue to honor your privacy rights under the updated policy
